To read a `.djvu` file on Mac, open it with a DjVu reader. If Finder says no application is set to open the file, choose an app that supports the format. That message alone does not mean the file is damaged.

## Open with Niraqua DjVu

1. [Install Niraqua DjVu](https://niraqua.com/djvu/) from the App Store. Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
2. In Finder, Control-click the file and choose **Open With > Niraqua DjVu**. You can also use **File > Open** in the app.
3. Use page thumbnails to navigate and zoom to inspect the scan. If the document includes an outline, use **Contents** to open a chapter.

To change the default reader, select the file in Finder, choose **Get Info**, select Niraqua DjVu under **Open with**, and choose **Change All**.

If you are still deciding which kind of app fits your workflow, see [how to choose a DjVu reader for Mac](https://niraqua.com/djvu/djvu-reader-mac/).

## Search and preview

Press **Command-F** to search. Missing results can mean missing text, OCR errors, or a query that does not match the stored words. See [search a DjVu scan](https://niraqua.com/djvu/search-djvu/).

Select a DjVu file in Finder and press **Space** for a Quick Look preview. If previews do not appear, see [Quick Look help](https://niraqua.com/djvu/help/quick-look/).

## Use another workflow

The [DjVuLibre project](https://djvu.sourceforge.net/) provides open-source DjVu tools and links to the separate DjView viewer. If your destination requires PDF, [export a PDF copy](https://niraqua.com/djvu/djvu-to-pdf/). Niraqua DjVu is a paid app; the App Store shows the current storefront price.
